with our boot camp!
I hate exercising--no honestly! Oh, I
tried a slew of different workout venues and purchased more than
my share of exercise equipment and videos only to find myself
left bored, discouraged and feeling literally nauseated.
After a month at Curves my measurements actually increased (no
joke), two months into a gym membership I needed a chiropractor,
my treadmill turned out to be the most expensive hanger I ever
purchased, and videos were great, but left to my own devices
they just collected dust in my DVD player. What I felt I
needed was a personal trainer, but being a single mom it seemed
more important to buy groceries.
I learned about Peak Fitness from a pamphlet
in my doctors office where, as many of you know, there is plenty
of time to read. I saw
that it was owned and operated by a physical therapist and that
their clients ranged in age from 18 to 70. I dialed the
number and before I knew it one Saturday morning at 8:30AM I
found myself attending a training class. I was sure that
performing any type of physical activity before noon would cause
cardiac arrest and kept thinking that once I left I was not
coming back for the real class. I can't really tell you
why I went back for the first class except I think it had
something to do with the fact that I just spent $80 on a pair of
sneakers--my bright yellow high top Reebok's from the last time
I worked out were not really appropriate.
I can tell you what made me go back for the
second class and every class since...the
workouts are intense, but I am able to work out at my own pace;
the members are unpretentious and the atmosphere is comfortable
so for the first time, I wasn't embarrassed to demonstrate my
lack of agility in front of others; each exercise
only lasts one minute leaving no time to get bored and I found
out that I can endure just about anything for 60 seconds; the
routines are different every day, and the class only lasts 45
minutes so I can easily work it into my busy schedule; and most
importantly there is constant supervision and encouragement (I
got my personal trainer!).
Five months
later I keep attending classes because I like that my triceps no
longer jiggle when I'm salting my food, that when I walk by a
mirror I no longer see slouching shoulders, that maybe I won't
succumb to the same type of heart disease that has taken other
family members before they had a chance to grow old, and oh
yeah, that my legs are receiving vocal compliments from
unexpected passersby.
Maybe next month I will be able to get past
the ingrained thought that this isn't going to last because "I
hate exercise" and sign up for more than one month at a time to
receive the discounted rate I've been missing out on.
Thank you Paul and Tony!! And if my girlfriends are by any
chance reading this...how many months will have to go by before
you stop saying "Oh my god, I can't believe YOU are still going to
boot camp!"
